We appreciate your interest in our items; thank you for telling us you saw an item you believe to be just like ours or very similar, but for a lot less than our asking price.   We understand and appreciate your concerns about the value and worth of the art and antiques you purchase.
We hope this FAQ will be helpful to you.

There are several things to consider when you see something you think is identical or similar. Below is a list of SOME of the questions to ask yourself every time you're tempted to compare one piece with another in terms of its value. You may in fact be looking at a forgery, or a copy, at a later reproduction, or considering information that is no longer valid.

  • How do I know these pieces are genuine? How do the sellers know these pieces are genuine?
  • What is the reputation of the sellers of the pieces? How do you know the sellers are reliable? What responsibility does each seller take regarding provenance accuracy?
  • Are both pieces the same size? What is the weight of each piece? Are both pieces made from the same things? Were both pieces made at the same time? How do you know?
  • If the pieces were made by the same artist but at different times, did the artist have to pay more for the materials in the later piece because their price had gone up?
  • How much time has gone by since you saw the other piece? How do you know that the old market price is still a valid price now? Has the market changed in the interim? If so, how? If not, why not? Has the market gone down or up?
  • Is the artist still alive? If not, when did the artist die? How long ago?
  • Did the artist create a fixed specific number of pieces in their lifetime, or are people still reproducing the artist's works?
  • How do you know if the pieces you saw are original or copies? Do you know if any copies exist? Don't guess.
  • What was the amount for which the artist originally sold the piece and how did they sell the piece? Who has these records and where are these records? Who bought the piece originally? How did the seller get it?

Yes, we do share our expertise; we have a limited amount of time available to assist others with evaluating pieces. We do, however, charge for our services; our expertise took us a lifetime to acquire, cost us a fortune and it's very rare.
